Reagan Weiss

was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1996. Having grown up with art lessons taught to her by her mother, she developed an interest in the ability drawing has to record 3D objects on a 2D plane. Throughout her life, Reagan maintained this fascination, progressively developing her skills toward rendering her subject true to life. She would say her abilities didn’t fully culminate until her college years when she fully committed her time to art in pursuit, and eventual achievement of, her bachelor’s degree in Studio Art.

Today, Reagan lives and works in Kailua, Hawaii, completing commissions and photographing and painting all over the island.

Her Story

After completing her degree, Reagan’s love for realism continued, pulling her toward portraiture and landscape painting but with a slight twist. Reagan found that the next level of art from portraying what is there is portraying what is not. Thus, utilizing her skills in photo manipulation, Reagan unreservedly edits her reference images by perhaps placing a path were there wasn’t one, removing an unseemly tree, or enlarging an important element. She does this in such a way that only someone familiar with the subject or location could notice. She says her goal is, “… to capture a moment of time that never existed and never will.”

Alongside her personal work, Reagan has pursued a career in commission art where she uses her eye for realism to portray couples, capture family homes, memorialize loved ones, and create many more personal and individual pieces for her patrons. In May of 2019, Reagan graduated from Lee University as Summa Cum Laude with an Award of Excellence in Art. In October of 2020, she participated in the Auburn Strokes Paint Out event and received an Honorable Mention for her painting “Two Trees.” In April of 2021, her painting “Scrutiny,” a portrait of her sister, was accepted into the Nebraska Biennial Exhibition among only 99 other artists. She currently has artwork form her Hawaii Series displayed and for sale in Waikiki at Aesthetic Hawaii Gallery.
